Lake Monroe, Indiana, is located near Brown County State Park. It is an excellent choice for a relaxing vacation with plenty to do for enjoyment. If you prefer staying on dry land, there are miles of trails for horseback riding, biking, and hiking. You can enjoy the great outdoors in multiple ways. Pack in a picnic for lakeside dining or buy lunch at a concession stand or restaurant. You have many choices at Lake Monroe.
Lake Monroe has eight state recreation areas, all with amenities to make your time at the lake the best it can be. Boat ramps and restrooms are located at all of the SRAs. Cutright, Fairfax, Moore’s Creek, Hardin Ridge and Paynetown have marinas. Fairfax, Paynetown & Hardin Ridge have camping, playgrounds, and shower houses. Fairfax and Paynetown have beaches.
Along with all this at the lake, there is a wonderful variety of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment in the surrounding area. Historical Nashville is known for its artists and craftsmen. Bloomington is home of Indiana University and offers a wide assortment of cultural experiences. Brown County State Park offers horseback riding, hiking and more. Clearly, Lake Monroe is an ideal family vacation destination.
